#the broken script

So I recently started a minecraft world, normal right? However, there are 2 main things about this:

1. I have never done a survival minecraft world before

2. its modded, specifically with the broken script mod, because why the hell not.

This series is just for me to talk about it, cause idk how to edit, and replay mod keeps breaking, and my obs hates me

So, 2 thing I notice at first, I have spawned in a Mesa(great start) and there is a sketchy camera filter, which is just giving gtfo vibes.

Bit of context on the mod, it’s supposed to turn ur world into a minecraft horror arg(and according to the description could delete it i think???), like the ones on yt, the good ones I mean.

So anyway, I walked about for a while, the mesa was VERY big, and found some cows, I punched a couple, but they sounded weird. Less like cows and more like people making cow noises, so I decided I was never gonna hurt a cow again.

More walking and flower collecting later and I find a village at the bottom of a large chasm, mostly flooded. There were 3 houses, one had a potion stand, one a bed, and the last had a chest with a leather helmet and some coal. I guessed this was a shit village so I set my spawn and slept to skip the night, stole haybales and melons, and left.

I walked for a long time, and collected a bunch of peonies for my own sanity, as well as killed a bunch of chickens and pigs with my stone sword. Doesn’t help that every noice scared the crap out of me, but what can u do, im a wimp after all.

It starts getting dark again, and I heavily regret not taking the bed from the rubbish valley village. So I did what anyone would do, found the tallest tree in a jungle biome, climb it, makes a box of random shit, torch inside and furnace so i could cook the meat, and set to stay there until day.

Then Null joined the game.

For the record, im in a singleplayer world. And the ominous music that started playing didnt help my over excitable nerves. I start typing to the entity, no response.

For some ungodly reason, i decide to leave my safe box and look around, its nearly day anyway. But then I notice some green eyes in the distance, between the vines and leaves, looking at me. Thinking this was Null, I looked at them.

It wasn’t Null

It was an enderman

I should have mentioned early that many textures and sounds were vintage minecraft looking, like beta cobblestone textures and the oof sound playing whenever I took damage(which got very, VERY, annoying very very fast.) So im guessing that endermen used tk have green eyes before the iconic purple, or it was the mod fucking with me.

Could be both.

So I fled back to the box as soon as I saw it and managed to get a few hits until it teleported somewhere I could see it, but could HEAR it.

I knew I had to leave or I would starve, but I wasnt physically or mentally equipped to deal with an endermen(they always scared me) So as soon as I could see the sun, I booked it.

The thing was in fact, underneath the tree, and began its chase. I hit it a couple of time with my crappy stone sword but endermen hit HARD, and I was on 2 hearts.

I only noticed this until after I jumped down a large cliff, plummeting to my death, at that split second I was thinking “why why why oh god im gonna loose everything and end up at the village with nothing left oh crap oh crap”

And somehow, by miracle or insane luck or general plot armour, I manage to do a vine clutch and just barely avoid the fatal fall. Barely registering this, I ran directly into a small river of water, where the enderman followed me, plunged in, and promptly died.

Needless to say, I was shooketh, yet proud of myself for somehow living besides the world saying “fuck u” to me multiple times in that 2 min chase. At that moment, I was Minecrafting!

I carried on my pillgrimage until I came across a mesa. I was thinking “Hey that looks like the place I spawned.” I look to my left, and saw the crappy village right next to me in the same damn ravine.

I had made a giant circle.

So, I went into the house with the bed, took it (there were no villagers there anyway) and set of north, i think, on my way to survival.

I found a broken portal I think? idk what its called, but there was a chest with 4 golden carrots, 2 obsidian and an unbreaking 1 gold chestplate. I also tried to talk to Null again, no response.

On that very lucky note, That was when I logged off of that nightmare world as my first day.

my favourite series is either derry girls or modern family, favourite kdrama is extraordinary you, cdrama is when i fly towards you (absolutely no competition at all)

for books, i’d have to say i definitely read more fantasy books. i generally like almost every book i read because im a chronic dnfer and can only finish a book if i enjoy it. that being said, my favourite book series of all time is caraval because it got me back into reading after a very long reading slump (i can’t keep my hands off books now)

music is apart of my identity and being i absolutely LOVE it. listening to songs isn’t enough i need it engrained into my soul. i listen to (pretty much) every single genre of music so it’d be impossible to list every single artist i listen to so i’ll just list my favourites — oasis (goated), AC/DC, boynextdoor, zerobaseone, red velvet, the ronettes, piero piccioni, lana del rey, taylor swift, gracie abrams, six pence none the richer, the cranberries, lady gaga, britney spears, tupac, abba, david bowie etc. i’m always very open to listening to new artists and am always 200% welcoming to music recommendations

my journey is not unlike many other shifters. i found shifting in november 2020 through pinterest (ik… rough) and fell victim to a lot of misinformation (which i have thankfully been able to leave behind). i’ve sort of been very on and off in my journey and have taken many (long) breaks and had periods where i place all my time and energy into shifting. however, i’ve decided to come back into shifting with a more open and relaxed mindset. ive gotten very close to full shifts multiple times so im certain its real sooo why not stick with it, right?

fomo is literally my enemy, it’s a daily battle. i always have this nagging feeling that im not doing enough in life. knowing this, shifting has been nothing less than a gift. it’s a chance to explore new experiences, live out every single life i’ve ever dreamt of. little me daydreaming about living out life in all the shows she watches would be ecstatic at the thought of it becoming a reality. shifting has become a way for me to embrace the infinite possibilities of existence and i genuinely absolutely adore that.

I’m very bored on a long car ride, so I ended up writing a short ‘What if you could kiss Razor?’ fic. It’s set right after you come back from her skewering you after you give her The Look. Content warnings for graphic descriptions of injury because Razor.

Kiss the Razor

Narrator: “You’re on a- wait, why are you with the princess already?”

Hero: “Well, THAT didn’t work.”

Cheated: “Yeah, whose stupid idea was it to waste The Look on the monster that wants to kill us anyway?”

Smitten: “Ahh, calm down dear fellow… what blossoming romance doesn't hurt at least a little bit? What matters is she likes us. She even said as much!"

Hero: “Oh, a new one of us.”

Cheated: “Great, this one sounds like a useless idiot.”

Princess: “Oh, hi! You came right back here! Great! Then I don’t need to wait to skewer you again!”

Smitten: “Ah, right back into the arms of our love!”

Hero: “I’m afraid that’s the blades of our… love?”

Smitten: “Now leave this to me, fellows. This will require a careful, loving touch.”

Cheated: “No way, that kind of bullshit got us killed last time!”

Smitten: “No-one ever said to love another was easy, or without struggle. But I tell you, with another try we can reach out to our star-crossed lover and walk out of here unskewered and hand in loving… blade.”

Hero: “I don’t know if-“

Cheated: “So she can slice our hands to bits too? Hard pass.”

Narrator: “Now hold on, no-one is walking out of anywhere hand in anything! You’re here to-“

Cheated: “Slay her? More like be slayed!”

Smitten: “Now if you’ll just let me work my plan…”

Narrator: “I’m not sure what’s going on here, but I know you should NOT listen to that voice.”

Princess: “Aww come on, do something already! Well, ready or not, here I come!”

Narrator: “The princess advances on you, blade raised. Whatever you’re going to do, now’s the time!”

Smitten: “Just follow my lead…”

Narrator: “A deep blush spreads across the princess’s cheeks as she advances upon you, giggling coyly. She does not, however, lower her blade, as she lunges at you-“

Smitten: “We smoothly dodge her blade, catching her lithe body in our strong arms, and dip her like the bladely dance this truly is.”

Cheated: “Oh, that’s not a bad move, we got her now.”

Narrator: “Indeed you do. She looks up at you wide-eyed and blushing as you harmlessly sidestep and catch her. Now would be the perfect opportunity to slay-“

Smitten: “Ignore his heartless blather. There is a much greater opportunity here. Kiss her! Kiss her now! This is the perfect moment!”

Hero: “Can we actually do that?”

Narrator: “What? No! No, I’m not having it! No way! I veto it.”

Cheated: “Hmmm I’m willing to give it a try… And He definitely doesn’t get a veto over anything.”

Narrator: “(frustrated sigh) Fine! Fine. You kiss the cruel, world-ending monstrosity. Happy now?”

Smitten: “Come on! You can do better than that! Give us a proper description!”

Cheated: “Yeah! I wanna know what it’s like!”

Narrator: “No way. I have my dignity.”

Hero: “Don’t you have a job to do properly too? Don’t you have professional dignity too?”

Narrator: “Oh, fine. You stare into the princess’s eyes, and she stares into yours, as you hold her underneath you. She is probably about to skewer you when you press your lips against hers. A small gasp escapes her and she almost goes limp in your hands before she reciprocates eagerly. Despite the slightly metallic taste of her lips, your mutual feeling of joy is truly unbounded as you hold this vicious monster tightly and kiss her.”

Smitten: “Ah-ha, what did I tell you, fellows? She just needs a loving touch and she’s like putty in our hands!”

Hero: “Amazing! I can’t believe it worked after all!”

Cheated: “Yeah, guess he’s not as stupid as I thought! What happens next?”

Narrator: “Well. You kiss for a while, a soft giggle escaping the princess’s lips as they press against yours. The happy moment seems to last forever. And then… um. Oh dear.”

Hero: “What? What is it?”

Narrator: “Um. Well. She starts opening her mouth into the kiss.”

Cheated: “Woah, this is getting real good!”

Smitten: “Ahh, she truly is a creature of passion. Well then, let me continue to take the wheel, fellows, I can assure you I know what to do…”

Narrator: “Um. Yes. She opens her mouth into the kiss and - oh I see.”

Hero: “What does she do?”

Narrator: “You feel a sudden, sharp pain erupt from your beak to your chin as her metal teeth bite down on the entire lower half of your face.”

Cheated: “What?! That’s such bullshit!”

Smitten: “Now hold on, darling…”

Narrator: “You try to pull back, to let her go, but your ‘darling’’s blade arms have caught around your back, cutting into it as she holds herself up. But the pain of the blades slicing into your back is nothing compared to the razor-sharp teeth digging into your face, drawing copious amounts of blood. And with muffled laughter, she bites down. Hard. Bones shatter and sinews sever as her jaws agonisingly dig down through your entire face, her teeth eventually meeting somewhere in what used to be your mouth.”

Smitten: “Now hold on, this isn’t quite what I was going for…”

Cheated: “Total. Bullshit.”

Narrator: “But she does not care what you were ‘going for’. She rips what remains of your face off as she finally pulls back from the grisly kiss. You try to scream, but your throat is filling up with the blood oozing from the ruin of your mouth. The princess laughs a laugh muffled by gore as she stands up, spitting your face onto the ground.”

Cheated: “Hey! That’s ours!”

Narrator: “The princess’s face is streaming with your blood, but not nearly as much as yours is.”

Princess: “You’re right, that was so much more fun than just skewering you immediately! These romantic murders really are something special! I can’t wait to see what you think of next time, hihi!”

Hero: “There’s gotta be something we can still do…”

Narrator: “Not really. You’re standing there with half a face, drowning in the blood pouring from the other half. The pain alone is truly overwhelming. Mercifully, she skewers you.”

Smitten: “Hmm okay, I admit this wasn’t ideal, but hear me out, fellows, perhaps if next time we-“

Honestly, even without Art’s attempts at manipulation and sabotage, I don’t think Patrick and Tashi’s relationship would’ve survived anyway. Before they started dating, Patrick was criticizing her career plans and Tashi was never interested in entertaining his massive ego at her expense. Passion and chemistry are important to relationships, but if that’s the only foundation, it’s gonna crumble quickly.

The only difference between Patrick/Tashi vs Art/Tashi is that the relationship would’ve ending with a bang instead of a whimper.

The more that I think about it, the more that I feel the rug is going to be pulled under us in 2.3, because I still feel like we're still in the dream. If it really was the true ending, why did we still get a credits roll…

Tbh, while I agree that the animation quality is not great in episode 2 (and I’m not optimistic it’ll get better), my bigger irritation with the Uzumaki adaptation is that its pacing is completely off. I think part of it is them having to adapt multiple chapters into one episode becasue it’s only a four episode run, but I think having them make it so everything is happening at the same time rather than in succession really blows some of it for me.

Like, in the manga, one of the best parts was that creeping escalation. First the spiral affects one person. Then another and another. Multiple people at once. Increasingly gruesome deaths and a creeping sense of dread as things get worse and worse for our protagonists. Setting all these things on top of one another makes it seem like things are happening super fast, and I think a lot of Junji Ito’s work is best when it’s given room to breathe.

Admittedly, I think one of the biggest issues with Junji Ito’s work is that it just isn’t super commercially viable to make it into an anime. If you want to make animation that contains the detail of his manga, then you need to cut excessively or cram everything together because even having each manga chapter be one half of an episode would still lead to an anime that costs a ridiculous amount of money. Whether or not it would make it back is almost irrelevant- I just don’t think most studios are really willing to spend the money needed to make a good Junji Ito adaptation.

Could they have fixed this? Maybe. I think cutting multiple less-important chapters from the manga might have helped (Jack-in-the-box and the typhoon are cool but not as iconic as the snails or the spiral eye). But in a lot of ways, there’s no way you can accurately adapt the manga in four episodes and it would be a struggle to keep that animation quality up over any episodes that they added (they couldn’t even keep it up for more than one).

Perhaps I’m completely wrong in this and the series animation would have been good if there wasn’t executive meddling or production issues or embezzlement or whatever disaster happened there. But the issues with the script were kind of baked in there and I don’t think they were fixable without an overhaul of the whole series from the ground up.
